Did you know that the Alpaca is a pet ?. 
• It is as smart as a dog and very affectionate. Genetically has more to do with the Vicuña than with the Llama.
• Domestication has been done for thousands of years.
• The alpacas are excellent pets. They have a very friendly temperament, they can be taught to walk with tie and are so docile that the children can handle.
• They are not wild, do not bite as can make the Llamas.
• They have an excellent memory and can learn their name.
 
In many countries are being introduced as a pet to keep them in large gardens or farms while contributing to the maintenance of the lawn. Their legs with pads do not produce erosion in the gardens. They are herbivores, ruminants (such as cattle), but they can digest very hard grasses and are adapted to lack of oxygen in the Andean highlands.
The alpaca is a completely harmless animal, so it poses no risk should be with children. An animal easily maintained, funny and original. Are shy but very curious animals happily eat the hand that feed them.
They are cheerful, intelligent, tender and very social animals. The kids had so much fun with them. They are also very brave animals not hesitate to attack foxes and wild dogs. In many places are used as guardians for sheep.
 The Alpacas are very tough, accustomed to extreme climates. Instead of origin are adapted to be on the same day temperatures of 30 ° to the sun to below zero at night. Therefore, they could accustomed to almost any climate.
Many people confuse the alpacas with Llamas. Alpacas are animals of medium size, reaching 80-90 cm at the withers and an adult weight up to 70 Kg a Llama is a much larger animal.; half-height (1-1.2 meters to cross) and the adult animal can weigh 120 kg.
The Alpaca hair is much thinner and more silky than the Llama fiber. It is recommended that the warm months it is used to perform shearing.

•The Alpaca is not used as a pack animal. Alpacas produce one calf every year and a half, and the Llamas have up to 2 pups every year, usually presented in twin pregnancy.
Another notable difference  between Llamas and Alpacas are the ears, in the case of the Llama´s these are large, lobed, upright and well established in the head, in the case of the Alpaca’s are small and are constantly falling.
But the most important difference between the two animals is the overwhelming sympathy of the Alpacas. !!!
